About US

The Rimcollian Old Boys Association (ROBA) is a non-profit Association whose primary aim is to foster and strengthen the affinity between the alumni of the erstwhile Royal Indian Military College, and now the Rashtriya Indian Military College, Dehradun, hereinafter referred to as RIMC and the employees of the RIMC.

ROBA was formed in August 1949. Maj Gen Hira Lal Atal, the then Adjutant General, was the founder President and Gen (then Col) GG Bewoor (Kitchener 1928-34), the First Secretary. Given an expansion its scope of activities, ROBA was registered with the Registrar of Societies under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860 on 24 April 2000 and under Income Tax Act 1961 on 16 March 2001. It is exempted from income tax under Section 80G of the IT Act. There were 1103 members when the association was registered as a Society. Today this membership stands at 3000+.

ROBA has remained an interactive body and has connected through its alumni through its bi-annual newsletter The Rimcollian. This website is an initiative of the Editorial Committee of the ROBA, under the guidance of the present ROBA president Lt Gen Ajay Ramdev and secretary Col Vivek Sharma.

There are three categories of ROBA Membership:

1. Life Members - All ex-students of RIMC other than those expelled on disciplinary grounds, upon making a payment of a lump sum as determined, from time to time shall become life members, and upon their demise their wives shall be extended all facilities as life members except for voting rights.

2. Associate Members - All Commandants, Principals, Vice Principals, Section Masters and masters who have taught at RIMC for minimum ten years, and Administrative Officers from the Defence Services who have served for minimum two years are eligible to apply for Associate Membership. Similarly, adult children of life members may also be considered if accepted by the life members and granted by the Working Committee.

3. Honorary Members - The Working Committee may, at its discretion, confer Honorary Membership upon dignitaries and persons of excellence visiting RIMC and to others who have assisted ROBA or the RIMC in a manner deserving such a recognition provided it is proposed and seconded by a two-thirds majority of life members present at the Annual General Meeting.
